*MRVC Celebrates 77th Republic Day

Mumbai: Vilas Sopan Wadekar, Chairman and Managing Director, Mumbai Railway Vikas Corporation (MRVC), unfurled the National Flag on the auspicious occasion of the 77th Republic Day at the Dahisar Project Site on 26 January 2026. He thereafter inspected the Guard of Honour presented by the Railway Protection Force (RPF) contingent.

Extending warm greetings to all officers, staff, stakeholders, and valued commuters of Mumbai’s suburban railway family, Wadekar stated that MRVC joins the nation in reaffirming its commitment to building a strong, inclusive, and developed India. He observed that Republic Day reminds us of our collective responsibility to uphold the values of justice, liberty, equality, and fraternity, and to translate these ideals into safe, reliable, and dignified public transport for every citizen.

Addressing the gathering, Wadekar highlighted that MRVC continues to spearhead transformative rail infrastructure initiatives under the Mumbai Urban Transport Project across the Mumbai Metropolitan Region. Guided by the vision of Viksit Bharat, he said that MRVC remains focused on decongesting the suburban rail network, improving punctuality and resilience, and delivering a world class, commuter centric railway system for millions of daily passengers.

He further informed that during 2025, MRVC achieved significant progress under Mumbai Urban Transport Project Phases III and IIIA, including the commissioning of new foot overbridges, skywalks, escalators, elevators, and elevated decks, thereby strengthening passenger safety and easing circulation at stations. Outlining the roadmap ahead, he stated that in 2026, MRVC plans to complete station improvement works at six stations, complete and commission the Panvel–Karjat suburban project, and finalise the procurement process for 238 fully air conditioned EMU rakes. Wadekar reiterated MRVC’s unwavering resolve to enhance safety, strengthen intermodal integration, and continue developing commuter centric infrastructure.

Rajeev Srivastava, Director (Projects), MRVC, along with Heads of Departments, officers, staff, and their family members were present on the occasion.

Later, Wadekar, accompanied by the MRVC team,*Sarala Wadekar, and others, visited Ankur Children’s Home as a goodwill gesture. The team distributed fruit hampers to the children and interacted with them.
