MRVC Achieves Major Milestones in July; Panvel–Karjat Corridor Nears Completion

Maharashtra Cabinet approves major capital enhancement; station upgrades, signalling, electrification and girder-launching works advance across Mumbai suburban network

Mumbai, August 9, 2026: Mumbai Railway Vikas Corporation Ltd. (MRVC) recorded significant progress across several major suburban railway infrastructure projects during July 2026, with the Panvel–Karjat New Suburban Corridor moving closer to completion and important works advancing on the Virar–Dahanu, Borivali–Virar and station improvement projects.
MRVC poised for double engine growth.
A major institutional development came on July 28, when the Maharashtra Cabinet approved an increase in MRVC’s authorised share capital from ₹25 crore to ₹500 crore and paid-up capital from ₹25 crore to ₹225 crore. The enhanced capital base is expected to strengthen MRVC’s ability to undertake large-scale suburban railway infrastructure projects across the Mumbai Metropolitan Region.
Panvel–Karjat corridor moves closer to completion
The Panvel–Karjat New Suburban Corridor recorded substantial progress during July.
Subways at Chikhale and Mohape were completed, while Road Over Bridges 89/1 and 90/2 were opened for local use. Cabling work in Tunnel-1 and Tunnel-3 was also completed.
Electrification progressed rapidly, with around 4 km each of OHE catenary and contact wire laying, along with 32 km of dropping wire work, completed during the month.
The corridor is now moving towards its final stages, with the project expected to be ready for Commissioner of Railway Safety (CRS) inspections by the end of 2026.
Virar–Dahanu quadrupling sees signalling boost
The Virar–Dahanu Road Quadrupling Project also achieved several key milestones.
ROB LC-55A in the Vangaon–Dahanu section and Minor Bridge No. 133 were completed.
At Kelve Road station, Phase-I Signalling and Telecommunication works were commissioned on July 15. Automatic signalling between Saphale and Kelve Road on both Up and Down Main Lines was also commissioned the same day.
New Electronic Interlocking systems in Relay Huts 3 and 4 have further strengthened signalling reliability and operational efficiency.
Borivali–Virar 5th and 6th lines gain land milestone
The Borivali–Virar 5th and 6th Lines Project crossed an important land-acquisition milestone with physical possession of approximately 1.81 hectares at Bhayandar secured on July 21.
One staff quarters building each at Vasai Road and Bhayandar was also completed during the month.
Station upgrades improve passenger movement
Passenger amenities received a major boost under MRVC’s station improvement programme.
At Kandivali and Mira Road, completed elevated decks were handed over to Western Railway.
At Mankhurd, a newly constructed East-side Booking Office was commissioned.
At Ghatkopar, several new passenger facilities were opened, including a 55-metre elevated deck, staircase access to Platform 1, double-discharge landings serving Platforms 2/3 and Platform 4, and connectivity with the existing eastern skywalk.
The improvements are expected to facilitate smoother passenger movement and strengthen interchange between the suburban railway and Metro networks at the busy Ghatkopar station.
Major girder launching works undertaken
Several technically challenging girder-launching operations were completed during planned traffic and power blocks in July.
At Dombivli, five girders were launched for a 6.5-metre-wide, 54-metre-long skywalk during the night of July 9–10.
At Dahisar, four girders were launched for a 6-metre-wide, 64-metre-long FOB during the July 4–5 night block.
At Virar, 16 girders of varying spans were launched between July 21 and 26 for a proposed 25-metre-wide and approximately 360-metre-long elevated deck over the station area.
At Bhayandar, 10 girders were launched on July 25, while seven girders were launched at Nallasopara during the July 30–31 night block.
The projects are aimed at increasing passenger circulation capacity at some of Mumbai’s busiest suburban stations.
MRVC receives Official Language award
MRVC was selected by the Town Official Language Implementation Committee (NARAKAS), Mumbai, for the “Utkrisht Nishpadan Puraskar” for 2025–26 in the medium-sized organisation category.
The category covered organisations with 51 to 300 employees, with 49 offices participating in the assessment.
Focus on employee wellbeing
MRVC, in association with the Art of Living Foundation, conducted Meditation and Breath Workshops in two batches from July 3–5 and July 24–26 for its officers and staff.
The programmes focused on stress management, emotional resilience and overall wellbeing through breathing exercises, guided meditation and relaxation techniques.
Suburban infrastructure gathers momentum
The July milestones underline MRVC’s continuing push to expand suburban rail capacity, improve passenger facilities and modernise railway infrastructure across the Mumbai Metropolitan Region.
With simultaneous progress on new corridors, additional railway lines, electrification, signalling, station redevelopment and passenger circulation facilities, several major MUTP projects are now entering important stages of completion and commissioning.
