India-Denmark Green Strategic Partnership Strengthens Bilateral Cooperation

0

Prime Minister Narendra Modi engaged in a productive conversation with Denmark’s Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen, reaffirming the robust collaboration between the two nations under the Green Strategic Partnership. This partnership, launched during a virtual summit in September 2020, represents a unique bilateral initiative focused on environmental sustainability, water management, circular economy, and sustainable urban development, including Smart Cities.

During the discussion, both leaders emphasized the expansion of the Green Strategic Partnership across various sectors, creating favorable conditions for Danish investments in India’s green transition. They also exchanged views on regional and global developments of mutual interest, underscoring the importance of continued cooperation.

Prime Minister Modi expressed his anticipation for the upcoming 3rd India-Nordic Summit, scheduled to be held later this year in Norway, where he plans to meet Prime Minister Frederiksen. Denmark remains the only country with which India has established a Green Strategic Partnership, highlighting the exclusivity and significance of this collaboration.

Frederiksen has previously commended Modi’s ambitious targets for providing clean water and renewable energy to millions of households, describing him as “an inspiration for the rest of the world.” Modi, in turn, has spotlighted the role of Danish expertise and technology in accelerating India’s progress toward green growth.

During his visit to Copenhagen in May 2022, Modi appreciated Frederiksen’s warmth and respect for Indians, emphasizing the potential for innovative solutions through India-Denmark collaboration. He also lauded the positive contributions of the Indian community in Denmark and invited further partnerships to harness India’s economic potential.

The leaders recalled high-level exchanges since the partnership’s inception, reflecting on its impact in fostering bilateral ties and addressing global challenges. Modi’s concern for Frederiksen’s well-being following an attack in Copenhagen last year further demonstrated the strong personal rapport between the two leaders.

This dialogue reinforces the commitment of India and Denmark to work together in achieving sustainable development goals, leveraging their unique strengths to benefit their citizens and contribute to global environmental efforts.
