Mumbai Battered by Heavy Monsoon Showers; IMD Issues Red Alert, Normal Life Disrupted
Mumbai, July 2, (Forever News): Mumbai woke up to another day of relentless monsoon showers on Thursday as heavy rainfall inundated several parts of the city, prompting the India Meteorological Department (IMD) to issue a Red Alert for Mumbai and neighbouring districts of Thane, Palghar and Raigad.
The intense overnight rain led to widespread waterlogging in several low-lying areas, including Andheri, Kings Circle, Sion, Dadar, Gandhi Market and Kurla, affecting vehicular movement during the morning rush hour. Railway tracks at Dadar witnessed water accumulation, while road traffic slowed considerably across major arterial routes due to flooding and poor visibility.
According to the IMD, Mumbai received significant rainfall over the past 24 hours, with the eastern suburbs recording the highest precipitation. Several rain gauge stations across the city and suburbs registered over 200 mm of rainfall, indicating one of the strongest spells of the season so far.

The weather department has forecast moderate to intense spells of rain over the next few hours, warning that isolated places could experience extremely heavy rainfall. Citizens have been advised to avoid low-lying and waterlogging-prone areas, stay away from trees, electric poles and weak structures, and venture outdoors only if necessary.
The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has also cautioned residents about the possibility of flooding coinciding with high tide and urged commuters to check transport updates before travelling. Traffic congestion, tree fall incidents and delays in suburban transport have already been reported from multiple locations across the city.
The active monsoon phase is expected to continue over Mumbai and the Konkan region during the next few days, with heavy to very heavy rainfall likely at several places. Authorities have appealed to residents to remain vigilant and follow official weather advisories as the city braces for more intense monsoon activity.
