Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate key infrastructure projects worth $5.5 billion in Jammu & Kashmir on June 6, marking a historic milestone in the region’s connectivity. The centerpiece of the initiative is the Chenab Rail Bridge, the tallest railway bridge in the world, which will significantly improve travel between Jammu and Srinagar. Modi emphasized that the bridge, along with the Anji Bridge, India’s first cable-stayed rail bridge, represents an extraordinary feat of engineering designed to withstand challenging terrain.
The Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Rail Link (USBRL) project, a 272-kilometer-long rail corridor, will ensure all-weather connectivity, transforming regional mobility and boosting economic growth. Modi will also flag off Vande Bharat trains connecting Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra to Srinagar, enhancing spiritual tourism and creating employment opportunities.
Ahead of Modi’s visit, the Chief Minister of Jammu & Kashmir reviewed arrangements at the Chenab Bridge, ensuring readiness for the high-profile event. The Prime Minister reaffirmed that these projects will have a positive impact on people’s lives, strengthening infrastructure and fostering development in the region.
The announcement follows Modi’s response to a social media post by the J&K Chief Minister, where he reiterated the significance of these projects in advancing connectivity, tourism, and economic opportunities. The government’s investment in modern rail infrastructure aligns with its broader vision of regional integration and sustainable development, reinforcing Jammu & Kashmir’s role in India’s economic growth.
With these initiatives, Modi’s administration continues to push forward large-scale infrastructure advancements, ensuring that Jammu & Kashmir benefits from enhanced transportation, economic expansion, and long-term connectivity solutions. The unveiling of these projects marks a major step in India’s commitment to modernizing its railway network and improving accessibility across the region.
