Tesla and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk has expressed his admiration for Prime Minister Narendra Modi, describing it as an “honour” to engage in discussions with the Indian leader. Musk, who is set to visit India later this year, highlighted the immense potential for collaboration between India and his companies in the fields of technology and innovation.
Taking to his social media platform X, Musk shared his enthusiasm, stating, “It was an honour to speak with PM Modi. I am looking forward to visiting India later this year.” The conversation between the two leaders, held on Friday, delved into a range of topics, building on their earlier meeting in Washington DC in February this year.
PM Modi, reflecting on the dialogue, emphasized the shared vision for advancing partnerships in technology and innovation. “Spoke to Elon Musk and talked about various issues, including the topics we covered during our meeting in Washington DC earlier this year. We discussed the immense potential for collaboration in the areas of technology and innovation. India remains committed to advancing our partnerships with the US in these domains,” the Prime Minister posted on X.
Their February meeting in Washington had already set the stage for deeper engagement, with discussions spanning space exploration, mobility, and technological advancements. PM Modi had also highlighted India’s reformative efforts under the ethos of “Minimum Government, Maximum Governance.” The meeting was further enriched by candid moments shared with Musk’s family, which PM Modi described as a “delight.”
Musk’s renewed engagement with India comes at a pivotal time, as Tesla is reportedly preparing to enter the Indian market. This development aligns with ongoing negotiations for a bilateral trade agreement between India and the United States, signaling a strengthening of economic ties between the two nations.
In a related move, Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal recently met with senior executives from Musk’s Starlink division in Delhi. The discussions focused on Starlink’s cutting-edge technology platform, existing partnerships, and future investment plans in India. Goyal shared details of the meeting on X, noting the potential for Starlink to contribute to India’s technological landscape.
As Musk prepares for his visit, the anticipation surrounding Tesla’s entry into India and the expansion of Starlink’s operations underscores the growing synergy between India and Musk’s ventures.
