New Income Tax Act Signals Shift from Complexity to Clarity: Experts
Mumbai, April 28: The rollout of the Income Tax Act, 2025 is being widely seen as a decisive step towards simplifying India’s tax framework, with professionals and stakeholders acknowledging a clear shift from complexity to clarity.
As part of a nationwide awareness initiative, the Income Tax Department आयोजित an outreach programme in Ghatkopar on Monday, drawing participation from over 350 individuals, including taxpayers, chartered accountants, trade bodies, and business community representatives.
Addressing the gathering, Dr. Vikram Sahay, Chief Commissioner of Income Tax, Mumbai, emphasised that the new legislation—effective from April 1, 2026—aims to significantly reduce compliance burdens. He noted that the Act has been designed with a taxpayer-centric approach, focusing on simplification, rationalisation, and ease of understanding. According to him, the reforms will enable citizens to fulfil their tax responsibilities more efficiently while contributing to nation-building.
Highlighting the Department’s outreach efforts, officials announced that more than 30 such programmes will be conducted across Mumbai during April and May, culminating in a mega event scheduled for May 12, 2026.

Dr. Maya Maheshwari, Principal Commissioner of Income Tax, Mumbai, in her welcome address, pointed out that the new Act is the result of nearly two years of dedicated work by departmental officials to make tax laws more accessible and transparent. A detailed presentation on the provisions of the Act was delivered by Manas Sahu, Assistant Commissioner of Income Tax.
Participants were also introduced to a range of digital taxpayer services, including the AI-powered chatbot “Kar Saathi” and the informational booklet “Kar Setu,” which provides frequently asked questions and guidance on the new legislation. Additional educational materials such as brochures and guidance notes were distributed during the session.
The event was attended by prominent representatives from trade and professional bodies, including Jitendra Mehta of CREDAI-MCHI, Deepak Chheda from the Akhil Ghatkopar Vyaapari Mandal, and CA Bhavik Kubadia of the Ghatkopar Study Circle under WIRC of ICAI.
Tax professionals present at the event broadly welcomed the reforms, stating that the new Act embraces a technology-driven approach while making compliance more straightforward. Many described it as a progressive move towards a more transparent and efficient tax administration system.
During the interactive session, participants raised queries related to tax payments and return filing for the financial year 2026–27, which were addressed by senior officials. The programme concluded on a positive note, receiving strong appreciation from stakeholders for its clarity and engagement.
