JNPA Steps Up Measures to Ease Import Container Pendency at Terminals
Mumbai: In a bid to address the rising import container inventory at terminals, the Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority has introduced additional facilitation measures aimed at ensuring smoother cargo evacuation and reducing pendency levels.

JNPA Steps Up Measures to Ease Import Container Pendency at Terminals.
The temporary shortage of trailer drivers at several Container Freight Stations (CFSs) has impacted the movement of import containers from terminals to CFSs. Although port operations continue without disruption, the slowdown in evacuation has resulted in increased container accumulation within terminal yards.
To tackle the situation, JNPA has already rolled out a series of corrective initiatives, including en-bloc movement of containers to CFSs through pooled vehicles using green channels, enhanced rail evacuation systems, and extended operational support to trade stakeholders. These measures have helped stabilise the situation to an extent, but authorities say further interventions are necessary to restore normal inventory levels.
As part of the latest relief measures, importers or their authorised representatives who had originally opted for delivery through CFSs under the DPD-CFS model can now apply for conversion of their Bills of Entry to Direct Port Delivery (DPD-DPD), enabling them to clear cargo directly from import yards.
The Customs Department has assured priority approvals for such conversion requests. Terminals and shipping lines have also agreed to extend full cooperation to facilitate amendments and smooth release of containers.
Importers have been advised to coordinate with their respective shipping lines for modification of Delivery Orders and arrange direct evacuation of containers from terminals using their own transport vehicles.
JNPA stated that it will ensure seamless movement of all converted containers from the terminals. Stakeholders facing operational difficulties may contact D.A. Gawade, Deputy Manager (Traffic) 9819030492., for assistance.
