The upgrade of Mumbai’s local trains to Vande Metro trains is a significant step towards modernizing the city’s transportation system, offering enhanced comfort and amenities for commuters.
In a significant development for Mumbai’s transportation system, the Ministry of Railways has issued a concise, five-point directive to the Mumbai Railway Vikas Corporation (MRVC), instructing them to upgrade Mumbai’s local trains to the sophisticated Vande Metro (suburban) trains.
The move comes under the Mumbai Urban Transport Project (MUTP) 3 and 3A, aimed at enhancing the city’s rail network by introducing new corridors and trains. As part of MUTP 3 and 3A, the MRVC has been tasked with procuring 238 trains of Vande Metro (suburban). However, the directive states that government-run railway factories will not manufacture the trains. Instead, technology partners will be contracted to undertake their production while adhering to the Make in India guidelines. The technology partner will also establish two car depots at Vangaon on Western Railway and Bhivpuri on Central Railway. There are many salient features to the Vande Bharat as narrated by Sunil Udasi, CPRO. # Air Conditioned Vande Bharat Suburban trains with automatic door closing system and fully vestibule coaches. # Single class of coaches means no first or second class as per the existing arrangement. # Separate AC Vendor compartment at both ends of train # Passenger seating arrangement is same as per the existing EMU trains and modular ergonomical seats. # coaches will for earmarked for ladies, physically disabled and senior citizens as per the existing arrangement. # Energy efficient LED lights in the coaches. # Infotainment for passenger with large digital display panels and indications for Enroute stations, door opening side etc. # Emergency egress system. # CCTV surveillance and passenger talk back system. # Stainless Steel fittings for better aesthetics.
Overall Mumbaikar will have an enhanced travel experience through the Vande Bharat trains.
