DRI Operation Results in Significant Drug Seizure and Arrests

Mumbai: Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) has achieved a breakthrough in countering drug trafficking with the apprehension of an Indian passenger arriving via Flight no. ET 640 from Addis Ababa to Mumbai on August 18, 2023.

Upon examination of the suspect’s luggage, DRI officers recovered approximately 1496 grams of Cocaine, estimated at a value of around Rs. 15 Crore. Following sustained interrogation and surveillance, a meticulously planned operation by DRI officers resulted in the successful nabbing of the intended recipient of the contraband drugs. The recipient, a female Ugandan national, was taken into custody. She was apprehended in the Vashi area of Navi Mumbai.

 

Both the alleged carrier and recipient are under arrest according to the provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985. They have been remanded to judicial custody for further legal proceedings
