Security Scare at PM Modi Event Venue in Mumbai: Two Detained, Gun Recovered
Man allegedly posed as PMO official; armed bodyguard also detained as Mumbai Crime Branch takes up probe
Mumbai, September 8, 2026: A security alert was triggered in Mumbai on Tuesday after two men were detained at the Nita Mukesh Ambani Cultural Centre (NMACC) in Bandra-Kurla Complex (BKC), where Prime Minister Narendra Modi was scheduled to attend an event.
According to Mumbai Police, one of the detained men allegedly claimed to be an official of the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO). A second individual accompanying him was carrying a firearm and was detained along with him.

Fake PMO identity under scrutiny
Police sources said the 24-year-old man allegedly presented himself as a PMO official. Reports have identified him as Rohan Parekh, although the investigation is continuing.
During verification, the identity credentials he reportedly produced were found to be questionable, with reports stating that the PMO identity card was fake. Police subsequently detained him for questioning.
The man was reportedly accompanied by a private bodyguard. During the security checks, the bodyguard was found carrying a firearm, leading to the detention of both individuals.
Crime Branch begins investigation
Mumbai Police said that the Mumbai Crime Branch has taken up further investigation into the matter.
Investigators are expected to establish why the man allegedly claimed to be associated with the PMO, how the purported identity card was obtained and the circumstances under which an armed bodyguard accompanied him to a venue operating under heightened security arrangements.
At this stage, there is no official indication that the two men intended to attack or harm the Prime Minister. The investigation is focused on establishing their identities, purpose and the circumstances surrounding their presence at the venue.
PM Modi was scheduled to inaugurate Global Fintech Fest
The security incident occurred on a day when Prime Minister Modi was scheduled to inaugurate the seventh edition of the Global Fintech Fest 2026 in Mumbai.
According to the PIB, GFF 2026 is being held from September 8 to 11 and brings together policymakers, regulators, central banks, financial institutions, fintech companies, technology companies, investors and other stakeholders.
The theme of this year’s conference is “Potential to Impact: Agentic AI, Tokenisation, Quantum – Trusted, Connected, Global Systems for Inclusive Finance.”
The incident has put security arrangements around the Prime Minister’s Mumbai programme under additional scrutiny. The investigation by the Mumbai Crime Branch is expected to provide further clarity on the circumstances leading to the detention of the two men.
