DRI Seizes Cocaine Worth ₹10.65 Crore at Mumbai Airport, Foreign Woman Arrested

2.128 kg cocaine concealed inside trolley bag handles recovered from passenger arriving from Freetown via Nairobi

Mumbai, July 6: In a significant crackdown on international drug trafficking, the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI), Mumbai Zonal Unit, has seized 2.128 kg of cocaine with an estimated illicit market value of ₹10.65 crore at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA), officials said on Monday.

The seizure was made after DRI officers acted on specific intelligence and intercepted a foreign woman passenger who arrived in Mumbai on Sunday from Freetown via Nairobi.

During the inspection, the passenger’s baggage was subjected to X-ray screening, which revealed suspicious concealment inside the metallic handles of two trolley bags. Officers dismantled and cut open the handles, recovering 17 cylindrical packets containing a white powdery substance.

The substance was tested using a field test kit and was confirmed to be cocaine. In total, 2,128 grams of the narcotic drug were recovered and seized under the provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985.

The woman has been arrested, and further investigations are underway to identify the larger drug trafficking network and establish the source and intended destination of the contraband.

The DRI said it remains committed to intensifying its efforts against narcotics smuggling and dismantling international drug syndicates as part of the government’s vision of a ‘Nasha Mukt Bharat’.

Officials added that the agency will continue to strengthen surveillance and intelligence-based operations to curb the illegal trafficking of narcotic substances and safeguard national security.
