US Vice President Vance Commends PM Modi’s Leadership and Strengthens Bilateral Ties During India Visit

US Vice President J D Vance, during his four-day visit to India, praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership and popularity, remarking that Modi’s approval ratings are enviable for any politician. Speaking in Jaipur, Vance highlighted Modi’s negotiating skills, describing him as a “very tough negotiator” who fiercely defends India’s commercial interests. He emphasized the importance of mutual cooperation between the US and India across various sectors, reaffirming the US commitment to a free and open Indo-Pacific.

Vance noted the shift in Washington’s approach towards New Delhi, contrasting the current administration’s respectful stance with previous administrations that he said were condescending. He acknowledged Modi’s government as one of the most popular in the democratic world and expressed optimism about ongoing bilateral trade talks, emphasizing fairness and mutual benefit. Vance also highlighted the growing strategic partnership in defense, including co-development of advanced military platforms, and welcomed India’s amendments to nuclear liability laws as a step toward deeper collaboration.

During his address, Vance reflected on India’s vibrancy and sense of infinite possibility, contrasting it with monotony in other nations. He praised India’s combination of heritage and ambition, which he said gives the country its unique energy. Vance also shared personal anecdotes, mentioning his wife Usha’s popularity in India and expressing admiration for the country’s ancient architecture and forward-looking vision.

Earlier, Vance visited Jaipur’s Amer Fort with his family, where they were welcomed with traditional folk performances and greeted by elephants at Jaleb Chowk. Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma and Deputy Chief Minister Diya Kumari met the Vance family during their visit. Vance’s itinerary also included a visit to the Akshardham temple in New Delhi and discussions with Modi.

The visit underscores the strengthening US-India partnership, with Vance highlighting shared goals in trade, defense, and regional stability, as well as the cultural and historical ties that enrich the relationship.
