Union Agriculture and Rural Development Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan marked the 110th birth anniversary of Jagadguru Dr Sri Shivarathri Rajendra Mahaswamiji at Suttur Math in Mysuru with a powerful call for national unity, farmer welfare, and swadeshi adoption. Addressing a large gathering of saints, devotees, and political representatives, the Minister declared that “serving the downtrodden is the truest form of worship,” and emphasized that “politics divides, religion unites.”
He praised the Math’s longstanding contributions to education, healthcare, and social welfare, describing its work as a beacon of change and spiritual service. Chouhan stated that the Math’s commitment to both religious and social upliftment exemplifies the true essence of Indian tradition.
Reflecting on his role as Agriculture Minister, Chouhan said, “Farmers are our life, food providers, givers of life, and serving farmers is true devotion for me.” He outlined the government’s ongoing efforts to make farming profitable, including schemes to increase production, reduce costs, ensure fair pricing, and provide compensation for crop losses. He also advocated for agricultural diversification and integrated farming practices to maximize benefits for small landholders.
Chouhan acknowledged the challenges posed by global tariffs and urged citizens to unite beyond political and ideological differences. He criticized the behavior of certain countries as dictatorial and warned of the crisis capitalism has created for global humanity. “India must guide the world toward eternal peace,” he said.
In response to rising tariffs and economic pressures, the Minister called for a nationwide pledge to use only swadeshi products. “This is very necessary,” he said, “as adopting indigenous products will strengthen our country’s economy.” He expressed confidence that citizens would embrace this call and chart a new history in the direction of swadeshi.
The event underscored the government’s commitment to farmer welfare, national unity, and economic self-reliance, aligning with Prime Minister Modi’s broader vision of Atmanirbhar Bharat.
