0

The Railway Protection Force and the National Commission for Women have renewed their commitment to fighting human trafficking by signing a Memorandum of Understanding on World Day Against Trafficking in Persons. The signing ceremony took place in the presence of Union Minister for Railways Ashwini Vaishnaw, who emphasized the importance of strengthening RPF’s capacity to prevent crimes against women and children.

The MoU was signed by Shivani Dey, Deputy Secretary of NCW, and S. Sudhakar, DIG/Projects, RPF. A special booklet on anti-human trafficking, prepared by NCW, was also released during the event. NCW Chairperson Vijaya Rahatkar highlighted the severity of human trafficking, describing it as one of the gravest human rights violations, with women and girls being the most frequent victims. She praised the RPF’s nationwide efforts, which have resulted in the rescue of over 65,000 trafficked and runaway children in the past four and a half years.

Director General of RPF Manoj Yadava reaffirmed the force’s dedication to the cause, noting that the vast reach of Indian Railways positions it as a frontline deterrent against trafficking. He stated that the partnership with NCW will enhance operational readiness and community engagement.

The renewed MoU enables structured training and sensitization programs for RPF personnel, along with public awareness campaigns at railway stations and onboard trains. Anti-Human Trafficking Units, currently active at more than 750 locations, will be further utilized to strengthen surveillance and ensure swift intervention in suspected cases.

This collaboration underscores a unified national effort to protect vulnerable populations and uphold a zero-tolerance stance against human trafficking through one of India’s most critical public service networks.
