Prime Minister Narendra Modi has welcomed the GST Council’s collective approval of the Union Government’s proposals for GST rate cuts and structural reforms, stating that the measures will benefit the common man, farmers, MSMEs, middle-class families, women, and youth. The Prime Minister said the wide-ranging reforms will improve citizens’ lives and enhance ease of doing business, especially for small traders and enterprises.

In a post on X, Modi recalled his Independence Day speech where he had announced the government’s intention to pursue next-generation GST reforms. He noted that the Union Government had prepared a detailed proposal focused on broad-based rate rationalisation and process reforms aimed at improving ease of living and strengthening the economy.

The Prime Minister expressed satisfaction that the GST Council, comprising both Union and State representatives, had agreed to the proposals. He emphasized that the reforms will simplify compliance, reduce tax burdens, and support economic expansion across sectors.

The announcement marks a significant milestone in India’s tax reform journey, aligning with the government’s broader agenda to streamline taxation, promote inclusive growth, and empower small businesses.
