President of India Droupadi Murmu presented the National Awards for the Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities for 2025 in New Delhi on the International Day of Persons with Disabilities. In her remarks, she emphasized that equality for Divyangjan is not charity but a duty of all stakeholders, stressing that true development can only be achieved through their full participation.

Murmu highlighted this year’s theme, “Fostering disability-inclusive societies for advancing social progress,” as a reflection of the nation’s commitment to a rights-based, dignity-focused approach. She noted that India has moved beyond a welfare mindset, with inclusion of Divyangjan now seen as integral to national progress.
The President pointed to the establishment of national-level institutions in areas such as sign language research, mental health rehabilitation, and sports training, along with the issuance of millions of Unique Disability ID cards to ensure access to special facilities. She urged society to remain vigilant and active in safeguarding the interests of Divyangjan, reinforcing government initiatives.

Murmu concluded by calling on every citizen to pledge to uphold dignity, self-reliance, and self-respect for Divyangjan, making them partners in the country’s journey toward social and national advancement.
