President Droupadi Murmu addressed the first convocation ceremony of AIIMS Gorakhpur and hailed the institute as an emerging epicentre of world-class healthcare, modern medical education and scientific research. She said that the name AIIMS evokes an image of cutting-edge treatment, advanced technology and dedicated medical professionals, and described AIIMS institutions as symbols of India’s healthcare capabilities where every patient sees a new ray of hope.

She said that AIIMS Gorakhpur, like its counterparts across India, embodies the founding objective of the first AIIMS—to deliver excellence in healthcare, education, and research. She lauded the institute for integrating innovation into its practices, from advanced surgical technology and diagnostic tools to blending AYUSH and allopathy in treatment. AIIMS institutions, she said, have set the highest benchmarks in India’s healthcare ecosystem.

Highlighting the institute’s rapid strides, she commended AIIMS Gorakhpur for its progress in academics, research and clinical services within a short span, saying it is becoming a vital hub for accessible and affordable healthcare in eastern Uttar Pradesh and its bordering regions with Bihar and Nepal. She acknowledged its role in extending quality medical services to citizens across economic strata.

Addressing the graduating doctors, she emphasised the pivotal role of medical professionals in shaping both a healthy society and a robust nation. She said doctors not only treat illness but help lay the foundation of national progress by enabling healthier citizens. She urged the young graduates to focus their service on communities with the greatest need—especially underprivileged populations in rural and tribal regions that still lack quality healthcare infrastructure.

The President noted that doctors often face many professional challenges, but said it is essential to maintain empathy and uphold the deeper values of their calling. She encouraged all stakeholders involved in medical education to create an environment that fosters understanding of doctor-patient communication, the healing power of compassion, and the importance of trust alongside clinical skills. She advised the graduates to remember throughout their careers that medicine is not just a profession but a humanitarian service, and urged them to weave empathy and integrity into their personal and professional identities.

The convocation recognised academic excellence by conferring Gold Medals on several top-performing students, including Sammya Hendey for the BSc Medical 2022 batch, V Al Shiramar for topping the MBBS final exams held in February 2024, and Manas Pant for achieving the highest marks in General Surgery.

The President’s address reinforced the national vision of accessible, ethical and innovation-driven healthcare, and underscored AIIMS Gorakhpur’s growing stature as a centre of excellence serving millions across north and east India.
