Prime Minister Narendra Modi departed today on a significant three-nation tour spanning Cyprus, Canada, and Croatia, aimed at boosting strategic partnerships, global cooperation, and support against cross-border terrorism.
The Prime Minister’s itinerary begins with a two-day visit (June 15–16) to Cyprus, at the invitation of President Nikos Christodoulides. Calling Cyprus a “close friend and important partner in the Mediterranean and the EU”, PM Modi said the visit aims to deepen cooperation in trade, investment, technology, security, and strengthen people-to-people ties.
Following Cyprus, the Prime Minister will head to Kananaskis, Canada, to attend the G7 Summit on a special invite from Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney. The Summit is expected to focus on pressing global issues, including equitable development and representation of Global South priorities.
On June 18, PM Modi will travel to Croatia, where he will hold bilateral discussions with President Zoran Milanović and Prime Minister Andrej Plenković. Notably, this marks the first-ever visit by an Indian Prime Minister to Croatia. He emphasized the countries’ centuries-old cultural linkages and expressed confidence in exploring new areas of cooperation.
Calling the trip a moment to “thank partner countries for their steadfast support in India’s fight against cross-border terrorism”, the Prime Minister underlined his intent to rally global understanding to combat terrorism in all its forms.
The high-stakes diplomatic visit is poised to amplify India’s global voice and strengthen ties across three strategic regions—Southern Europe, North America, and the Balkans.
