Members of the Parliamentary Committee on Official Language visited the National Film Development Corporation and the National Museum of Indian Cinema in Mumbai on April 22, 2025. The delegation included Members of Parliament Shankar Lalwani, Haribhai Patel, Kuldeep Indora, Sumer Singh Solanki, and Zia Ur Rahman, along with Secretary Prem Narain.
Upon arrival, the Members were received by D. Ramakrishnan, General Manager of NFDC, and other senior officials. Ravindra Kumar Jain, Senior Economic Advisor to the Union Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, was also present during the visit. A guided museum tour was led by Jayita Ghosh, Manager of Marketing and Public Relations at NMIC, and Satyajit Mandlay, Deputy General Manager and Curator.
The museum provided the delegation with an in-depth overview of the historical evolution of Indian cinema, its technological advancements, and a curated collection of rare posters and exhibits. The Members expressed their admiration for the museum’s role in preserving and showcasing the rich cultural heritage of Indian cinema. They described the visit as both informative and emotionally significant, strengthening their connection to the cinematic history of the country.
The visit marked a significant moment for both NMIC and NFDC, as key policymakers recognized the museum’s contribution to safeguarding the legacy of Indian cinema. The Members conveyed their intention to revisit the museum in the future, further emphasizing their appreciation for its invaluable efforts in preserving and presenting the nation’s cinematic heritage.
