The National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development celebrated its 44th Foundation Day with a commemorative event in Chennai, declaring its strategic intent to lead from the front in building inclusive growth through digital transformation, mission-driven programmes and expanded support for rural enterprises. NABARD Chairman Shaji KV said the institution’s journey reflects its unwavering commitment to transforming rural India by enabling financial access, catalysing innovation and fostering resilience. He emphasised the need to scale high-impact solutions while keeping sustainability central to development efforts.
Financial Services Secretary M Nagaraju lauded NABARD as a cornerstone of India’s rural development strategy for over four decades, stressing that its role will be pivotal in navigating climate challenges and digital opportunities. Tamil Nadu Chief Secretary N Muruganandam praised NABARD’s support in empowering self-help groups and building self-reliant communities across the state, highlighting its work in inclusive finance and infrastructure enhancement.
The event brought together policymakers, state officials, banking leaders and innovators to reflect on NABARD’s legacy and unveil future-facing initiatives. One such step was the inauguration of NABARD’s new sub-office in Leh, Ladakh, further extending its grassroots reach.
Established on 12 July 1982 with headquarters in Mumbai, NABARD operates with a mission to promote sustainable and equitable agriculture and rural prosperity through credit support, institutional development and innovative services. Its evolving focus underscores its role as a catalyst for inclusive growth in a rapidly changing development landscape.
