Mumbai Customs intercepted 11.88 kilograms of hydroponic marijuana at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport, valued at Rs 1.18 billion in the illicit market. Two Indian nationals arriving from Bangkok were apprehended on June 21 after officers, acting on intelligence, discovered vacuum-sealed packets of the contraband hidden in pillow covers inside their trolley bags.
Both individuals were arrested under provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985. Authorities have launched a deeper investigation into the broader syndicate involved in the smuggling attempt.
