Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s monthly radio programme, Mann Ki Baat, has generated Rs 341.3 million in revenue since its inception, according to a government statement presented in the Rajya Sabha. The substantial earnings underscore the programme’s widespread popularity and its role in revitalizing All India Radio, which has long struggled with financial sustainability.
The Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting and Parliamentary Affairs, L Murugan, stated in a written reply that audiences across metropolitan centres and remote villages connect with Mann Ki Baat through a variety of traditional and digital platforms. Akashvani (All India Radio) broadcasts the programme nationally and regionally in multiple languages, ensuring accessibility to vernacular audiences.
Mann Ki Baat has emerged as a distinctive platform for informing citizens about transformative developments across India. It aims to inspire public participation in the nation’s progress by sharing stories of individuals and communities making meaningful contributions. The Prime Minister regularly highlights impactful work in education, health, environmental conservation, innovation, and social service. The programme also showcases grassroots initiatives led by youth, farmers, women, artisans, entrepreneurs, sportspersons, and self-help groups, while drawing attention to the legacy of unsung heroes from Indian history.
Over time, Mann Ki Baat has evolved into a soft tool of nation-building, shaping public discourse through narratives that celebrate India’s diversity, resilience, and social commitment. The programme is also telecast on various Doordarshan national and regional channels, extending its reach to viewers in rural and remote areas.
Digital engagement has expanded significantly, with the programme being live-streamed and archived on YouTube channels such as PMO India and AIR, as well as on Prasar Bharati’s OTT platform WAVES. It is also accessible via the NewsOnAIR mobile app, which hosts over 260 Akashvani channels. The visual format of Mann Ki Baat has enhanced audience interaction by enabling shared viewing experiences and fostering collective reflection and discussion.
