India Post Rolls Out Advanced Postal Technology Across 164,000 Locations

India Post has launched a nationwide rollout of its Advanced Postal Technology (APT) application under the IT 2.0 initiative, marking a major shift from its legacy system to a faster, smarter, and more customer-centric digital platform. The transition spans over 164,000 post offices across urban, rural, and remote regions, making it one of the largest digital upgrades in the country’s public service infrastructure.

The rollout began on August 4, and while initial slowness was observed due to the scale and complexity of the migration, the technical team resolved the issues by the following day. Dedicated support teams and real-time monitoring systems were already in place to address such operational challenges.

On August 5, the new system facilitated the booking of over 20 million articles and the delivery of more than 25 million items across India. The APT platform has significantly improved transaction speed, digital payment integration, real-time tracking, and overall user experience.

India Post reiterated its commitment to uninterrupted public service and stated that performance is being closely monitored to ensure a smooth and efficient transition. The Department of Posts had earlier announced the launch of the APT application across Delhi, with 353 Post Offices and 61 Branch Post Offices adopting the new system on August 4.

To enable a safe and seamless transition, public transactions were suspended on August 2 at 414 locations in Delhi for data migration, validation, and configuration procedures.
