The Chief of the Army Staff visited high-altitude forward posts in the central sector to assess operational readiness, motivate personnel, and reinforce civil-military linkages in strategically vital terrain. During his tour of formations deployed in Pithoragarh and adjacent posts, he received detailed briefings on capability enhancements including advanced surveillance systems, specialist mobility platforms, next-generation technology integration, and coordinated reconnaissance with allied security agencies.
Commending the professionalism, discipline, and tactical agility of troops operating in extreme conditions, he praised their innovative use of equipment and unwavering devotion to duty. Interacting with personnel stationed in remote reaches, he reaffirmed the Indian Army’s preparedness to meet evolving security challenges and invoked the ethos of “Service Before Self.” He also met with veterans and local communities, acknowledging their sacrifices and extending Diwali greetings to all ranks and their families.
Highlighting the strategic significance of the Kumaon region as a gateway to border areas with Nepal and China, he lauded the patriotism and resilience of the local population. He invoked the legacy of the Kumaon Regiment and reviewed development initiatives under Operation Sadbhavna and the Vibrant Village Programme. These include tent-based homestays in Garbyang and Kalapani, improved road infrastructure, hybrid power systems, medical outreach, and agricultural support through polyhouses.
Concluding the visit, the Army Chief reaffirmed the force’s commitment to operational excellence, civil-military harmony, and the enduring traditions of duty, honour, and service to the nation. He underscored that the Indian Army in Kumaon exemplifies “strength with compassion,” defending the frontiers while empowering border communities.
