Aadhaar Authentication Hits 211 Crore Transactions in May, Strengthening India’s Digital Economy

The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) recorded over 211 crore Aadhaar authentication transactions in May 2025, marking a significant increase compared to the previous month and the same period in May 2024, when 201.76 crore transactions were conducted. The cumulative number of Aadhaar-based authentications has now crossed 15,223 crore, reinforcing its role as a cornerstone of India’s digital economy and welfare delivery system.

UIDAI’s AI/ML-based Aadhaar Face Authentication witnessed strong adoption, with 15.49 crore transactions in May, demonstrating the growing utility of biometric identification. More than 100 government ministries, financial institutions, oil marketing companies, and telecom providers currently rely on face authentication for seamless service delivery, ensuring secure and efficient identity verification.

Additionally, 37 crore e-KYC transactions were conducted in May, showcasing Aadhaar’s continued importance in streamlining customer verification processes across banking and non-banking financial services sectors. Aadhaar e-KYC has significantly improved ease of doing business, enhancing customer experience by enabling instant identity authentication.

UIDAI highlighted the growing adoption of Aadhaar authentication technologies, underscoring their role in simplifying access to government benefits, financial services, and telecom operations. The steady rise in transaction numbers reflects India’s digital transformation, reinforcing Aadhaar as a catalyst for economic inclusion and governance efficiency.
