Common Service Centre e-Governance Services India Limited (CSC SPV), under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, celebrated a decade of Digital India with a landmark event at Yashobhoomi Convention Centre, New Delhi. Marking 10 years of grassroots digital transformation, the celebration was attended by Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw and Union Minister of State Jitin Prasada.
Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw announced that 10 lakh citizens across India will receive free artificial intelligence training, with priority given to Village Level Entrepreneurs (VLEs). He praised the impact of CSCs in enabling digital services in rural areas, stating that CSC has reached nearly 90 percent of villages and emerged as the only medium capable of providing digital access to every corner of the country. He highlighted how VLEs like Manjulata from Mayurbhanj and Rose Angelina from Meghalaya have pioneered digital empowerment in underserved regions.
The Minister urged all VLEs to begin offering IRCTC services and committed to working with state governments to integrate their IT agencies with CSC SPV. He reflected on the power of UPI, which has now surpassed global platforms like Visa in usage, describing it as the strength of 1.4 billion Indians.
Minister Jitin Prasada described CSCs as the cornerstone of last-mile connectivity and shared that the CSC network has expanded from 83,000 centres in 2014 to 5.5 lakh centres in 2025. He noted that over 74,000 women VLEs are now driving digital inclusion and announced plans to integrate Primary Agriculture Credit Societies (PACS) with CSCs. He emphasised the importance of new technologies such as AI in sectors like agriculture, education and health, and recommended enhancing VLE incomes by allowing them to deliver Update Client Lite and state government services.
Managing Director and CEO of CSC SPV Sanjay Rakesh welcomed dignitaries and underscored CSC’s impact in bringing government services to citizens without requiring travel to cities. He declared that CSCs represent a new paradigm of empowerment built on inclusion and the Prime Minister’s vision of Sabka Saath, Sabka Vishwas.
The two-day CSC Diwas celebrations were held nationwide, culminating in discussions among IT Secretaries from all states on rural empowerment and the future of e-governance. Between July 1 and 15, CSC centres celebrated with active public participation and felicitated top-performing VLEs.
CSC SPV, launched in 2009, is now one of the world’s largest digital service ecosystems. Each CSC is operated by a VLE, offering Aadhaar enrolment and updates, PAN and passport services, banking, insurance, telemedicine, educational services, legal aid, utility bill payment, agriculture-related services and e-commerce through the Grameen eStore.
The event reaffirmed Digital India’s success in bridging the urban-rural digital divide and positioning India as the third-largest digital economy globally. The announcements made during the celebration signal the next phase of inclusive growth powered by AI, innovation and grassroots enterprise.
