Mumbai: The Mumbai Railway Vikas Corporation (MRVC) has organised a special ‘Rail Jan Samvad’ to engage rail enthusiasts and railway observers in discussions on improving Mumbai’s suburban railway network, with a focus on capacity augmentation, connectivity, station infrastructure and commuter convenience.

MRVC organised Rail Jan Samvad on October 24 to gather rail enthusiasts’ suggestions on suburban rail connectivity, capacity, stations and commuter convenience.
The interactive session was held at MRVC’s corporate office on October 24, 2026, as part of a unique initiative conceived by Vilas S. Wadekar, Chairman and Managing Director, MRVC, to invite constructive suggestions from people who closely follow the city’s suburban railway system.
The initiative complemented the nationwide Rail Jan Samvad programme conducted by Central Railway and Western Railway at various railway stations. MRVC also participated in these interactions across the Mumbai suburban network, particularly at locations where its infrastructure development and station improvement projects are underway.
Addressing the participants, Wadekar shared insights into MRVC’s ongoing infrastructure projects and future development plans. He encouraged rail enthusiasts to exchange views freely and offer innovative, practical suggestions to strengthen the suburban railway network and make it more responsive to the needs of commuters.
The discussions covered a wide range of subjects, including increasing passenger-handling capacity, improving rail connectivity, upgrading station infrastructure, introducing modern rolling stock, integrating different modes of transport and planning infrastructure to meet the growing mobility requirements of the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR).
Participants suggested developing additional suburban corridors, improving interchange facilities, optimising the utilisation of existing infrastructure, introducing integrated ticketing systems and enhancing the overall passenger experience. The discussion also addressed the future connectivity needs of emerging residential, commercial and industrial centres across the metropolitan region.
The interaction highlighted the importance of incorporating public perspectives into infrastructure planning. Rail enthusiasts, through their sustained observation of railway operations and commuter requirements, can offer valuable insights that complement the technical expertise of railway planners and engineers.
MRVC will examine the suggestions received during the interaction, while issues falling within the jurisdiction of the respective zonal railways will be forwarded to them for consideration.
The initiative reflects MRVC’s commitment to inclusive and commuter-centric infrastructure development. By providing a common platform for railway planners and informed members of the public, the corporation seeks to encourage collaborative thinking and practical solutions for Mumbai’s evolving suburban transport needs.
As Mumbai continues to expand, sustained investment in railway infrastructure, improved connectivity and better passenger amenities will remain crucial to the region’s mobility and economic development. Through ‘Rail Jan Samvad’, MRVC has reinforced the importance of listening to public voices in building a safer, more efficient and future-ready suburban railway network.
