CJI Justice Surya Kant Inaugurates 24×7 Automated Locker Facility at Supreme Court
New Delhi, September 1, 2026: Chief Justice of India Justice Surya Kant inaugurated a state-of-the-art 24×7 automated locker facility introduced by Bank of Maharashtra at the Supreme Court of India, marking a significant step towards technology-driven and customer-centric banking services at the apex court.

The inauguration was attended by several Hon’ble Justices of the Supreme Court and Sanjay Lohiya, Secretary, Department of Financial Services.
Speaking on the occasion, Lohiya appreciated Bank of Maharashtra’s initiative, noting that the automated locker facility would enhance both convenience and security for users.
The facility is part of the bank’s continuing efforts to provide innovative, premium banking services at the Supreme Court. Following the inauguration of its modern branch at the apex court, Bank of Maharashtra has been introducing technology-enabled solutions designed to meet the requirements of the court’s diverse stakeholders.
Anytime Access, Enhanced Security
Bank of Maharashtra MD & CEO Nidhu Saxena said the bank was committed to combining technology, security and convenience to deliver a best-in-class banking experience.
“We are proud to introduce this automated locker facility at the Supreme Court of India, which is being launched for the first time by a Public Sector Bank in India,” Saxena said.
The facility is designed around the concept of “Convenience of Anytime Lockers”, with the unique proposition “Lockers Comes to You”. The bank said accessing the automated lockers is designed to be as simple as using an ATM.
The system provides 24×7 access and incorporates a three-layer authentication mechanism comprising facial recognition, card authentication and PIN verification.
Once the customer is authenticated, an automated robotic system retrieves the designated locker and delivers it to a private cabin, providing users with greater privacy and confidentiality while accessing their valuables.
Japanese Robotics Technology
The automated lockers have been imported from Japan and combine robotics with precision engineering to provide a modern alternative to conventional manually operated locker systems.
The automated retrieval mechanism eliminates the need for manual handling of lockers, while the controlled private cabin provides a secure and confidential environment for customers.
Bank of Maharashtra said the new facility further reinforces its focus on innovation, customer convenience and technology-led transformation. The initiative also reflects the bank’s efforts to introduce differentiated banking solutions across diverse customer segments.
With the launch of the automated locker facility, Bank of Maharashtra has added another technology-driven service to its banking operations at the Supreme Court, strengthening its presence at the country’s apex judicial institution.
