Mumbai, July 29: India today celebrates Guru Purnima, one of the country’s most revered spiritual and cultural festivals, dedicated to honouring teachers, mentors, guides and all those who illuminate the path of knowledge. Observed on the full moon day (Purnima) of the Hindu month of Ashadha, Guru Purnima is also celebrated as Vyasa Purnima, commemorating the birth anniversary of Maharishi Ved Vyasa, the sage credited with compiling the Vedas and authoring the Mahabharata.
