Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav said the operation led to the arrest of Bagicha Singh and Bhupinder Singh, both residents of Boghi Wala village in Guru Har Sahai, along with Sajan from Araiyan Wala village and Chhinder Pal Singh alias Rinku from Lakha Singh Wala in Ferozepur district.
Police also impounded the vehicle allegedly being used by the accused to transport narcotics.
According to the DGP, preliminary investigations indicate that the smuggling module had direct links with foreign-based drug smugglers and handlers, who allegedly instructed the accused to retrieve and distribute the heroin consignment in Punjab.
Officials said further investigations are underway to trace the backward and forward linkages of the network and dismantle the entire cross-border smuggling chain.
Sharing details of the operation, Assistant Inspector General Gursewak Singh said police received intelligence inputs about the movement of the suspects, who had allegedly collected a heroin consignment from across the international border a few days earlier.
Acting on the tip-off, police teams intercepted the accused near Guru Har Sahai in Ferozepur district while they were allegedly transporting the narcotics consignment for delivery to another party.

Investigators revealed that the accused had allegedly been promised substantial financial rewards by their handlers for carrying out the smuggling operation.
Punjab Police said more arrests and additional recoveries are expected as investigations continue.
A case under Sections 21, 25 and 29 of the NDPS Act was registered on May 23 at a police station in Fazilka district.
