About Ganjifa Cards

Ganjifa is a traditional Indian card game and art form depicting mythological themes, especially the Dashavatara. Originating in ancient India and flourishing in Sawantwadi, Odisha, and Mysore, these hand-painted cards are made of cloth or handmade paper and coated with lacquer. Now a rare craft, Ganjifa survives through a few artisans. The Department of Posts aims to support its revival and preserve this artistic heritage through philatelic initiatives.
