In a significant move to bolster India’s cyber resilience, the Data Security Council of India and Siemens Limited have inaugurated a state-of-the-art Operational Technology Cyber Security Lab at the Nasscom campus in Noida. The facility is designed to serve as a national innovation platform, offering startups and researchers access to advanced technology and equipment to develop and test cybersecurity solutions in real-world OT environments.
The lab provides a controlled setting for hands-on training and testing, enabling professionals across critical sectors to gain practical exposure to OT cybersecurity practices. It is equipped to conduct the latest defense-in-depth tests tailored for operational technology systems, which are increasingly vulnerable due to the convergence of IT and OT in industrial settings.
KK Singh, Joint Secretary at the Ministry of Electronics and IT, inaugurated the lab and emphasized the strategic importance of securing OT environments for national security. He encouraged startups and researchers to leverage the facility to enhance cyber defenses across India’s critical infrastructure.
Vinayak Godse, CEO of DSCI, announced that the lab will function as an extension of the National Centre of Excellence, a joint initiative between MeitY and DSCI. He noted that the lab will foster collaboration among government agencies, academia, industry, and startups, creating a robust ecosystem for cybersecurity innovation.
Suprakash Chaudhuri, Head of Digital Industries at Siemens Limited, highlighted the risks posed by rapid digitalization and the merging of IT and OT systems. He stated that the lab will empower Indian industries to build resilient and cybersecure operations, addressing vulnerabilities that arise from this technological convergence.
India’s digital forensics market is projected to grow at a compound annual rate of nearly 40 percent, reaching Rs. 11,829 crore by FY 2029–30—more than triple the global average. The launch of this lab marks a strategic step toward securing the nation’s infrastructure and positioning India as a global leader in OT cybersecurity innovation.
