India’s unemployment rate is 2%, the lowest among G20 nations, according to the World Economic Forum’s “The Future of Jobs Report 2025,” Union Minister for Labour & Employment and Youth Affairs & Sports, Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya, stated. He highlighted how employment generation has occurred across various sectors in tandem with India’s rapid economic growth, attributing it to enabling government schemes.
He made these remarks while attending the signing of Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) between the Ministry of Labour & Employment and digital mentorship platform Mentor Together and classifieds online site Quikr. The partnerships are intended to enhance employment opportunities and youth employability on the National Career Service (NCS) portal.
Mandaviya noted that the NCS platform, with nearly 5.2 million registered employers and 57.9 million job seekers, has mobilized over 72.2 million vacancies since its inception and currently has over 4.4 million active vacancies. Over the past year, the ministry has signed MoUs with ten key organizations, including Amazon and Swiggy, mobilizing nearly 500,000 vacancies.
He welcomed the new partnerships, stating that they would make suitable employment opportunities and structured mentoring available to job seekers, particularly in light of the Pradhan Mantri Viksit Bharat Rozgar Yojana. He recalled that the government, in its third term, had announced a package of five flagship schemes with a total budget of Rs 200 billion to support employment, skilling, and opportunities for 41 million youth.
Minister of State for Labour and Employment Shobha Karandlaje noted that NCS has become India’s premier platform for digital employment facilitation. The partnership with Mentor Together is expected to reach 200,000 youth in its first year, providing personalized career mentoring. The renewed MoU with Quikr will integrate over 1,200 daily job listings across more than 1,200 cities into the NCS portal, expanding real-time access to job opportunities for millions, especially from rural and underserved regions.
