The Quality Council of India marked World Accreditation Day 2025 with a high-profile event at the India Habitat Centre in New Delhi, reinforcing the pivotal role of accreditation in empowering small and medium enterprises and enhancing India’s quality infrastructure. The occasion was highlighted by the launch of a revamped NABL Portal, aimed at streamlining accreditation processes and improving digital accessibility for laboratories and MSMEs.

As the national custodian of accreditation, QCI operates through its key boards—the National Accreditation Board for Testing and Calibration Laboratories and the National Accreditation Board for Certification Bodies—partnering with international organizations such as the International Laboratory Accreditation Cooperation and the International Accreditation Forum to align India’s quality standards with global benchmarks.

This year’s theme, “Accreditation: Empowering Small and Medium Enterprises,” focused on how certification and standardized assessments can boost MSME credibility, competitiveness, and global market access. Secretary of the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade, Amardeep Singh Bhatia, emphasized the importance of accreditation in supporting exports, maintaining quality assurance, and driving sustainable economic growth under the vision of Aatmanirbhar Bharat and Viksit Bharat 2047.

QCI Chairperson Jaxay Shah, in his keynote speech, described accreditation as a gateway to global trust, highlighting how it enables MSMEs to align with international standards, reduce rejection rates, enhance productivity, and tap into new markets. Expert panel discussions during a technical session and CEO forum explored accreditation’s role in strengthening diagnostic infrastructure, promoting certified management systems, supporting third-party inspections, fostering sustainable manufacturing, and contributing to India’s net-zero targets.

Observed annually on June 9, World Accreditation Day serves as a platform to promote global trade, economic development, and quality assurance. This year’s event reaffirmed India’s commitment to using accreditation as a catalyst for innovation, market expansion, and industry-wide growth, ensuring that MSMEs remain competitive in an increasingly globalized economy.
