Bharti Airtel has introduced significant upgrades to its AI-powered spam detection tool, aimed at safeguarding users from spam calls and messages. This advanced feature will now identify international spam calls and SMS messages while delivering alerts in users’ preferred Indian languages, ensuring accessibility and ease of understanding.
The tool supports alerts in ten languages, including Hindi, Marathi, Bengali, Gujarati, Tamil, Kannada, Malayalam, Telugu, Punjabi, and Urdu, with plans to expand language options further. Currently, this feature is exclusive to Android users.
Airtel’s initiative comes in response to a 12 percent rise in international spam calls over the past six months, stemming from foreign networks. While the tool effectively reduced domestic spam, this new threat prompted the telecom giant to expand its capabilities. Since its launch in September 2024, Airtel’s AI-powered spam detection tool has flagged over 27.5 billion spam calls, averaging 1,560 identified spam calls per second. Airtel customers have experienced a 16 percent decline in spam calls, reflecting the tool’s efficiency.
Siddharth Sharma, Airtel’s Director of Marketing and CEO Connected Homes, highlighted the role of customer feedback in driving these enhancements. He noted the importance of adapting the AI tool to monitor foreign spam traffic and simplifying alert comprehension by integrating regional language options.
The upgraded spam detection features are being rolled out to all Airtel customers at no additional cost, with activation occurring automatically. These measures mark Airtel’s commitment to improving user experience and combating emerging threats in the digital communication landscape.
