The Indian Navy has successfully concluded the 2025 edition of its capstone Theatre Level Operational Exercise (TROPEX), a three-month-long exercise running from January to March 2025. The exercise aimed to validate several of the Navy’s operational concepts and evaluate its preparedness to respond to diverse challenges.
TROPEX 2025 included an Amphibious Exercise (AMPHEX), a Joint Work Up Phase focusing on precise ordnance delivery, Cyber and Electronic Warfare, and a Tactical Phase. Set in the Indian Ocean, including the Arabian Sea and Bay of Bengal, the operations extended approximately 4,300 nautical miles from north to south up to 35 degrees south latitude and 5,000 nautical miles from the Strait of Hormuz in the west to the Sunda and Lombok Straits in the east.
The exercise witnessed participation from 65 to 70 Indian Naval ships, 9 to 10 submarines, and over 80 aircraft of various types. The units of the Indian Army, Indian Air Force, and Indian Coast Guard also participated extensively, contributing Sukhoi-30, Jaguar, C-130, Flight Refueller, and AWACS aircraft, over 600 infantry troops, and more than 10 ICG ships.
The culmination of TROPEX 2025 marked the successful end of an intense operational campaign, designed to assess the Navy’s combat readiness and material preparedness. The exercise reaffirmed the Navy’s commitment to being a combat-ready, credible, cohesive, and future-ready force.
The Ministry of Defence emphasized that TROPEX 2025 provided a valuable evaluation of the Indian Navy’s ability to synchronize and integrate operations to defend national maritime security interests. The high level of operational synergy achieved during the exercise demonstrated the effectiveness of the joint planning and execution of theatre-level scenarios with other services.
