Maharashtra Governor calls for accreditation of schools on the lines of HEIs
Stating that only 7000 schools from out of 15 lakh schools in the country have been accreditated so far, Maharashtra Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari called upon schools to get themselves assessed and accredited from the National Accreditation Board for Education and Training (NABET) on the lines of NAAC accreditation of higher educational institutions (HEIs). This, according to him, will bring quality consciousness among schools.
Governor Koshyari was speaking at the Inaugural session of the Regional Quality Conclave on Quality Assurance & Accreditation for School Education in Mumbai on Monday (21 Nov)
The Conclave was organised by the Education Promotion Society for India (EPSI), an autonomous society working for establishing an interface platform for raising the quality of education in the country.
The Governor said while it is necessary to enhance the quality of school education, it is all the more important for schools to impart values and moral education to children. He stressed the need to provide education to the children in their mother tongue at least till the 3rd standard.
President of EPSI and Founder of Vellore Institute of Technology Dr G. Viswanathan, Secretary General, Quality Council of India Dr R P Singh, Chairman of National Accreditation Board for Education Training P R Mehta, Executive President, MIT Prof Mangesh Karad, Executive Secretary EPSI P.Palanivel, Bharat Agarwal, teachers and academicians were present.
