JNPA Unveils India’s First AI-Powered Tender Evaluation System on 37th Foundation Day
Mumbai, May 30: The Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority (JNPA), India’s premier container port, celebrated its 37th Foundation Day with a series of landmark announcements aimed at strengthening the country’s maritime infrastructure and accelerating digital transformation.

Union Minister for Ports, Shipping and Waterways, Sarbananda Sonowal, inaugurated NIVIDA, India’s first Artificial Intelligence-driven tender evaluation engine, developed jointly by JNPA and AI Transmute Solutions. The Minister also launched the Indigenous Vessel Traffic Services (iVTS) system, a major step towards enhancing India’s self-reliance in maritime technology.
The celebrations marked a significant milestone for JNPA, which recorded its highest-ever container throughput of 8.17 million TEUs during FY 2025-26, reflecting a growth of nearly 12 percent over the previous year. The port also achieved a record overall cargo throughput of 102 million metric tonnes, underlining its growing role in India’s logistics and trade ecosystem.
Addressing the gathering, Sonowal praised JNPA’s commitment to innovation, operational excellence and sustainable growth. He said the port continues to play a crucial role in supporting India’s vision of becoming a global maritime powerhouse under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
A key highlight of the event was the signing of multiple Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) focused on sustainability, technology and infrastructure development.
JNPA signed an agreement with CSIR-National Environmental Engineering Research Institute to strengthen environmental planning, climate resilience and ESG initiatives. Another MoU with Jawaharlal Nehru Custom House will facilitate environmentally compliant disposal of perishable cargo through scientific biodegradation and composting methods.
In line with India’s green mobility ambitions, JNPA partnered with Convergence Energy Services Limited to establish electric vehicle charging and battery-swapping infrastructure within the port premises.
Additional collaborations included agreements with REC Power Development and Consultancy Limited for shore power expansion projects and Energy Efficiency Services Limited for energy-efficient infrastructure and solar power initiatives.
A strategic partnership was also signed with Indian Institute of Technology Madras to develop advanced maritime technologies including digital twins, navigation systems, dredging solutions, simulation models and Just-In-Time port operations.
JNPA Chairperson Gaurav Dayal said the port authority remains committed to shaping the future of India’s maritime sector through innovation, sustainability and world-class infrastructure.
