The newly upgraded Andheri RS Post Office has been transformed into a future-ready, customer-centric, and technology-enabled service hub aimed at enhancing public convenience and service efficiency. Originally established in 1932-33, the historic post office has now been redesigned with modern infrastructure, digital integration, improved customer amenities, and enhanced branding.

The Andheri RS Post Office is among 40 selected post offices across 17 states under the Proof-of-Concept initiative of Jan Sewa Connect. It is the first post office in Maharashtra and only the second in India to be inaugurated under the ambitious modernisation project.

The renovation initiative has been undertaken in partnership with the School of Planning and Architecture, New Delhi, reflecting the government’s focus on combining heritage with modern public service delivery systems.

Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia said the initiative aligns with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of creating a modern, futuristic, and citizen-focused postal network across the country.

Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis highlighted the important role India Post continues to play in connecting people and delivering essential services to the last mile, especially in both urban and rural India.

India Post, which operates a vast network of over 1.65 lakh post offices nationwide, remains one of the country’s largest public service delivery systems. Officials stated that the Department of Posts recorded a 16 percent growth in Gross Postal Revenue during 2025-26, reflecting the success of ongoing transformation and digitisation initiatives.

The inauguration ceremony also witnessed the release of a special commemorative cover marking the launch of the renovated Andheri RS Post Office under the Jan Sewa Connect initiative.

Senior dignitaries including Chief Postmaster General of Maharashtra and Goa Circle Amitabh Singh, MLA  Harun Khan, Rupesh Savarkar, and Acharya Pawan Tripathi were present on the occasion.

Under the Jan Sewa Connect initiative, India Post plans to upgrade nearly 2,000 post offices across Maharashtra, aiming to transform traditional postal centres into digitally empowered community service hubs for the future. – www.forevernews.in
