Mumbai Metro Line 9 Nears Launch, Partial Operations Begin.
The much-awaited corridor, connecting Dahisar East to Mira-Bhayandar, has successfully undergone safety inspections and trial operations. The first phase of the project, covering around 4.5 km between Dahisar and Kashigaon, is ready and awaiting final clearances and inauguration.
Although the launch was expected earlier, minor administrative delays have pushed the opening date. Officials, however, have confirmed that the infrastructure is fully prepared and services are likely to begin soon.
Mumbai Metro Line 9 is part of the city’s larger metro expansion plan aimed at improving connectivity across the Mumbai Metropolitan Region. Once fully completed, the line will stretch about 13.5 km with nearly 10 stations, linking Mira-Bhayandar directly to Andheri and other key areas through integration with Metro Line 7.
The project is expected to significantly reduce travel time and ease congestion on the busy Western Express Highway. Authorities estimate that the line could serve between 50,000 to 1 lakh passengers daily, providing a faster and more reliable alternative to road transport.
The first phase includes four stations—Dahisar East, Pandurang Wadi, Miragaon, and Kashigaon—bringing metro connectivity to Mira-Bhayandar for the first time. This is expected to benefit thousands of daily commuters who currently rely on overcrowded trains and road networks.
One of the key features of Metro Line 9 is its double-decker design, where a flyover runs below the metro line. This innovative structure helps optimise space and improve traffic flow in densely populated areas.
Safety inspections have been conducted by the Commissioner of Metro Rail Safety, and minor technical improvements suggested during the process are being addressed to ensure smooth operations.
Once operational, the metro line is expected to offer significant relief to commuters travelling between Mira Road, Bhayandar, and Mumbai’s western suburbs, making daily travel faster, safer, and more convenient.
With Mumbai continuing to expand its metro network, Metro Line 9 is set to become an important link in improving urban transport and connecting suburban regions to the city’s main commercial hubs.
