Budget provides Rs 1,240 crore for Chief Minister’s Fisheries Scheme

Provision of Rs 6,600 crore for water transport sector in Mumbai

Mumbai, March 06, 2026: Chief Minister and Finance Minister Shri. Devendraji Fadnavis today presented the state budget for the financial year 2026-27 in the Legislative Assembly. In this budget, special emphasis has been placed on empowering farmers, hard workers, laborers, fishermen, women and students and important provisions have been made for infrastructure development in the state.

Fisheries and Ports Minister Nitesh Rane expressed the opinion that this budget will promote the overall development of the state and create new opportunities for the progress of various sectors. Minister Rane said that substantial financial provisions have been made especially for the Fisheries and Ports Department.

 


For the overall development of the fisheries sector, the “Chief Minister’s Fisheries Scheme” has been approved with a financial provision of Rs. 1,240 crore per year. This scheme will help boost fisheries in the state and increase the income of fishermen.

A provision of Rs. 6,600 crore has been made for the water transport sector in Mumbai. Also, a project to build a new jetty at Radio Club in Mumbai has been taken up and this project is planned to be completed by December 2027. This project will help in boosting maritime transport and tourism.

The state’s share of funds for the Vadhana Port Project, one of the largest port projects in the country, will be sanctioned in phases. This project will generate more than 12 lakh jobs and the ‘Vadhana Port Skill Development Programme’ will be implemented for local youth from 44 villages in the project area. Also, considering the facilities of the fishermen, an important project has been undertaken to develop a modern fishing port at Satpati in Palghar district.

The state government has announced the “Maharashtra Shipbuilding, Ship Repair and Ship Recycling Policy: 2025” and under this policy, financial provision will be made for setting up a marine shipyard cluster as well as a greenfield shipbuilding cluster. Minister Nitesh Rane expressed his belief that these initiatives will strengthen the maritime industries and also boost employment generation.

Minister Rane thanked the Chief Minister, stating that this budget will accelerate the overall progress of the state and show a vision for building a progressive Maharashtra.
