Youth Voices and Climate Shifts Take Center Stage at PIB–UNICEF Workshop

0

A media workshop hosted by PIB Mumbai in partnership with UNICEF India brought climate change and environmental sustainability into sharp focus, with young citizens and shifting weather patterns in Maharashtra emerging as key themes.

Smita Vats Sharma, Director General (West Zone), PIB, highlighted the environmental awareness among youth, noting how simple habits—like turning off fans, shutting taps, and avoiding single-use plastics—reflect a growing consciousness. “These small actions speak volumes. Through this workshop, we become more mindful of our impact,” she said.

The discussion also spotlighted climate anomalies in Maharashtra. Once considered a rain shadow region, parts of Satara district are now experiencing heavy rainfall, signaling significant ecological shifts.

UNICEF’s WASH and Climate Specialist Yusuf Kabir stressed the need for unified efforts. “This calls for coordinated action between Central and State Governments, grassroots organizations, and other stakeholders,” he said.

The event underscored the power of informed media engagement and community-driven climate resilience, especially as younger generations lead the way with everyday choices.
