Mumbai,: The Maharashtra Postal Circle commemorated the 50th anniversary of G.P. Sippy’s legendary film Sholay with the release of two specially designed picture postcards and a presentation pack featuring an exclusive golden cancellation. The celebration marked half a century since the film’s original release on 15 August 1975.
Chief Postmaster General, Maharashtra Circle, Shri Amitabh Singh, formally unveiled the commemorative items and presented the first album to Shri Ramesh Sippy, the acclaimed director of Sholay.

The event was attended by eminent personalities including Shri Shehzad Sippy, Shri Rohan Sippy, Mrs Kiran Joneja Sippy, and Shri Shivendra Singh Dungarpur. Senior postal officials present were Ms Kaiya Arora, Director Postal Services (Mumbai Region); Ms Simran Kaur, Director Postal Services (Headquarters), Maharashtra Circle; and Smt Rekha Rizvi, Director, Mumbai GPO.
The ceremony drew a large gathering of philatelists and film enthusiasts, underscoring the film’s enduring place in India’s cultural and cinematic heritage. Even after five decades, Sholay remains a timeless classic in the hearts of millions.
