Mumbai: India’s rapidly expanding digital and creative industries are poised for a major boost as the Indian Institute of Creative Technologies (IICT) opens admissions for its first cohort this August. The institute will offer an extensive range of industry-focused programmes in the AVGC-XR sector—spanning Animation, Visual Effects, Gaming, Comics, and Extended Reality.

Announced by Union Minister for Information & Broadcasting, Ashwini Vaishnaw, at the World Audio Visual Entertainment Summit (WAVES) in May 2025, IICT is backed by renowned global partners and leading industry players. Its inaugural academic portfolio features six specialized courses in Gaming, four in Post Production, and eight covering Animation, Comics, and XR. Developed in close collaboration with top industry experts, these courses are designed to equip students with the practical skills and knowledge needed to excel in this dynamic field.

In a significant milestone, IICT has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the University of York, UK, enabling collaborative research, faculty exchange, and international certification opportunities. Further strengthening its ecosystem, global giants like Google, YouTube, Adobe, Meta, Microsoft, NVIDIA, and JioStar have pledged long-term partnerships with the institute—supporting curriculum design, scholarships, internships, startup incubation, and career placements.

IICT CEO Dr. Vishwas Deoskar emphasized that the institute’s vision is to position India as a global leader in the AVGC-XR domain by nurturing world-class talent. The curriculum, expected to be detailed later this month, will adhere to international standards while tapping into India’s rich creative potential.

The IICT Governing Board includes Sanjay Jaju, Vikas Kharge, Smt. Swati Mhase,  Chandrajit Banerjee, Ashish Kulkarni, Manvendra Shukul, and Rajan Navani. The Governing Council features Munjal Shroff, Chaitanya Chichlikar, Biren Ghose, Bhupendra Kainthola, and Gaurav Banerjee.

With the global AVGC-XR industry expected to witness exponential growth, IICT’s comprehensive programmes aim to build a skilled workforce that will fuel India’s creative economy and establish the country as a hub for cutting-edge immersive and digital content technologies.
