President Droupadi Murmu inaugurated and laid the foundation stone for multiple projects at Mahayogi Gorakhnath University in Gorakhpur, Uttar Pradesh. The initiatives included the inauguration of the Auditorium, the Academic Block and the Panchkarma Kendra, along with the laying of the foundation stone for a new girls’ hostel building.
Addressing the gathering, the President expressed appreciation for Mahayogi Gorakhnath University for highlighting the comprehensive nature of India’s medical systems by integrating education and treatment in both allopathy and Ayurveda through its medical college, Ayurveda college and their associated hospitals. She noted with satisfaction the ongoing development of the Shri Gorakshanath Medical College Hospital and Research Centre, which is establishing a new hospital with 1,800 beds.
She remarked that private higher education institutions that function with the goal of philanthropy and public welfare have an important role to play under the National Education Policy 2020. She acknowledged that Mahayogi Gorakhnath University is the first private university contributing to higher education in Gorakhpur and neighbouring regions. Within just four years of its establishment, the university has achieved significant milestones and has become a leading centre of higher learning and employment-oriented education in eastern Uttar Pradesh.
The President voiced her confidence that the students of the university would not only achieve professional excellence but also embody ideals of spirituality and patriotism in their conduct.
She further stated that she was pleased to inaugurate several facilities, but took even greater satisfaction in laying the foundation stone of the new girls’ hostel. She emphasised that education is the most powerful tool for empowerment and pointed out that the lack of safe residential facilities for girls often obstructs or entirely halts their pursuit of higher education. She described the decision to construct a new girls’ hostel as a pivotal and commendable step for enhancing women’s access to higher education. The President praised the university for taking this valuable initiative toward women’s empowerment.
She affirmed that as the people of the Purvanchal region become healthier and better educated, the entire state of Uttar Pradesh will advance rapidly along the path of inclusive development. She added that as India’s most populous state accelerates its progress, the entire nation will set new benchmarks in development.
