President Droupadi Murmu addressed the National Students’ Convocation of the Institute of Cost Accountants of India in New Delhi, emphasizing that accountants have long been respected for upholding societal accountability. She praised ICMAI, founded in 1944, for playing a vital but understated role in India’s post-independence economic transformation by helping policymakers and institutions develop cost-efficient strategies.
Acknowledging the evolving role of cost and management accountants from factory floors to corporate boardrooms, she urged students to embrace responsibilities beyond financial reporting. She highlighted sustainability as a pressing concern, stressing that corporations must now consider environmental costs, and that CMAs are uniquely equipped to drive meaningful change.
The President said India’s vision for becoming a developed nation by 2047 hinges on professionals like these, urging them to blend competence with national commitment. She expressed confidence that ICMAI’s education would shape not just career-ready professionals but dedicated nation-builders.
