Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Cyprus President Nikos Christodoulides signed a landmark joint declaration in Nicosia reaffirming their nations’ commitment to global peace, democratic values, and strategic cooperation. Modi’s official visit, the first by an Indian Prime Minister to Cyprus in over two decades, underscored a renewed partnership built on mutual trust and aligned international priorities.

The two leaders condemned terrorism in all forms and emphasized zero tolerance for cross-border threats, with Cyprus extending strong support for India’s fight against terror, including the recent Pahalgam attacks. They called for dismantling terror financing channels and infrastructure, while advocating for the swift adoption of the Comprehensive Convention on International Terrorism at the United Nations. The leaders agreed to enhance defense and cyber cooperation, encourage joint naval training and port calls, and institutionalize coordination for emergency evacuations and search-and-rescue missions.

India reiterated its unwavering support for the sovereignty, territorial integrity, and unity of Cyprus, backing a peaceful, UN-facilitated resolution to the Cyprus Question. Both nations reaffirmed support for UNCLOS and ocean governance, with Cyprus lauding India’s accession to the Nuclear Suppliers Group.

They announced the creation of a five-year bilateral action plan, the India-Cyprus Business Forum, and deeper collaboration in startups, AI, fintech, and digital infrastructure. Both sides agreed to accelerate an EU-India Free Trade Agreement by year-end, with Cyprus pledging strong support during its EU Council presidency in early 2026.

The joint declaration emphasized the transformative potential of the India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor, recognizing Cyprus as a regional hub for logistics and maritime services. Plans were also set in motion for a mobility pilot program, cultural exchanges, and improved air connectivity to strengthen people-to-people ties.

With the signing of the declaration, India and Cyprus move forward as trusted strategic partners poised to shape a resilient and peaceful global order. Modi invited Christodoulides to visit India, cementing the partnership’s future through shared priorities and enduring friendship.
