The National Science Centre (NSC), Delhi is set to unveil its newly revamped Hall of Nuclear Power: Atoms Serving the Nation, a permanent exhibition dedicated to nuclear energy and its role in India’s development. The inauguration, scheduled for June 5, 2025, will be attended by B.V.S. Sekhar, Executive Director of the Nuclear Power Corporation of India Limited (NPCIL), alongside leading scientists, academicians, and museum professionals.
Originally established in 2016, the gallery has undergone a transformation incorporating cutting-edge display technology, immersive digital kiosks, and interactive simulations designed to educate the public on nuclear fission, reactor operations, radiation safety, and nuclear waste management. Spanning 7,000 square feet, the gallery now features 56 interactive exhibits, including a 3D walkthrough of a nuclear power plant and artifacts retrieved from operational nuclear reactors.
The exhibition also pays homage to India’s nuclear pioneers, including Dr. Homi J. Bhabha, emphasizing the significance of nuclear energy in achieving net-zero emissions and ensuring long-term energy security. With India possessing vast thorium reserves, nuclear power is expected to play a critical role in meeting future energy demands and reducing reliance on fossil fuels.
NPCIL, under the Department of Atomic Energy, Government of India, has spearheaded advancements in nuclear safety and environmental protection, reinforcing public education initiatives through exhibits like the Hall of Nuclear Power. The National Science Centre, Delhi, which receives over 700,000 visitors annually, including 400,000 students, continues to serve as a leading institution for science literacy.
The National Council of Science Museums (NCSM), overseeing 26 science centers and 48 mobile science exhibition units, has played a vital role in fostering scientific awareness across India’s urban and rural populations. Following the inauguration, the gallery will be open to the public, operating seven days a week from 9:30 AM to 6:00 PM, reinforcing India’s commitment to educating citizens on sustainable energy solutions.
