India to Host Data User’s Conference on Unincorporated Sector Enterprises and Private Sector Investment Trends

The National Statistics Office (NSO), Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI), Government of India, will host a Data User’s Conference in collaboration with the Indian School of Business (ISB) on May 27, 2025, at the Khemka Auditorium, ISB Campus, Hyderabad. The conference will provide an interactive platform for data producers and users to discuss findings from the Annual Survey of Unincorporated Sector Enterprises (ASUSE) 2023-24 and the Forward-Looking Survey on Private Sector Capital Expenditure (CAPEX) Investment Intentions.

The event will be chaired by Dr. Saurabh Garg, Secretary, Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation, and will feature distinguished speakers including Jayesh Ranjan, Special Chief Secretary to the Government of Telangana; Dr. V. Anantha Nageswaran, Chief Economic Advisor to the Government of India; Prof. Madan M. Pillutla, Dean, Indian School of Business; and Geeta Singh Rathore, Director General, National Sample Survey (NSS).

Expected to host around 200 participants, the conference will bring together academicians, economists, industrial associations, trade bodies, policymakers, international organization representatives, enterprises, and media professionals. Experts from the National Statistical Commission (NSC) will also contribute insights.

The agenda includes technical sessions, panel discussions, and interactive dialogues focusing on sampling design, sector-wise trends, enterprise behavior, and investment strategies. The discussions will explore how these surveys influence sector-specific policies, strengthen enterprise data systems, and support forward-looking economic analyses.

A panel discussion will feature experts including Dharmakirti Joshi, Chief Economist, CRISIL; Dr. M. Suresh Babu, Director, Madras Institute of Development Studies (MIDS); Prof. Rishi Kumar, BITS Pilani; Prof. C. Veeramani, Director, Centre for Development Studies (CDS), Thiruvananthapuram; and Dr. Pallavi Choudhuri, Senior Fellow and Deputy Director, National Council of Applied Economic Research (NCAER). The discussion aims to enhance data quality, address gaps, and generate actionable recommendations for policy frameworks and industry analysis.

Participants will have the opportunity to engage directly with speakers and panelists, ensuring a collaborative and insightful exchange on the significance of data-driven decision-making. The conference reflects MoSPI’s commitment to reinforcing India’s statistical infrastructure, ensuring its continued evolution to support economic planning and policy development.
